Living in Summit County is a unique experience. While we are fortunate to enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine a year, and a true winter season complete with our famous "champagne powder," year-round residents may experience several unexpected challenges.
Our community is considered a high alpine environment, where snow may begin to accumulate as early as September, and still be piling up into May and even June. Walkways are often icy, and the driving treacherous, especially over the mountain passes.
Most of the towns in Summit County are over 9,000' in altitude, with the exception of Silverthorne, which tops out at 8,727'. Living at high altitude can affect some people in a variety of ways. To learn more about the effects of high elevation, please review this information from the Summit Medical Center.
